it’s a taro shiba inspired jack-o-lantern! (aka tar0-lantern)
from my human, kai…
this design was a fall-back that i sketched out last minute.
we had hoped to do some more elaborate work on a pumpkin, but my family got these plastic/foam craft pumpkins, so we couldn’t do any peeling for texture or varying light levels. also, these were very hard to cut.
we’re quite surprised with the result; we’re pretty pleased with how it came out (especially because it’s permanent!).
while we do like ours, our favorite shiba jack-o-lanterns can be found on our shibal inu and on koshisan’s flickr.

my humans know that i don’t need a halloween costume.
why is that, you ask? i’ll give you not one, but two reasons:
- if they put a costume on me, i’m likely to lawyer up and sue for all the pain and distress caused by what i consider to be cruelty to this animal, and
- a costume is unnecessary as i am capable of portraying many roles sans costume.
among other things, i’ve been known to be:
a ghost
a football player
a flautist
a jedi or a monk
a prison inmate
a scholar
a lumberjack
a west-coast stoner
a hungover dog

an ikea-made, stuffed-animal version of taro shiba
& a zombie taro shiba!
clearly, no costume necessary for this pooch. but, even if you’re wearing a costume or if you put one on your pooch, i hope you all have a happy and safe halloween!
