it’s a retro/hipstamatic taro wednesday!
today’s photo is a black-and-white shot of me in motion. i was walking across an asphalt parking lot near downtown tempe. it came out pretty well, almost as if there was a spotlight focused just on my shiba face & paws!
as a bonus, i’ve uploaded a handful of toonpaint photos to flickr. they’re all pics of kai and i walking on a sidewalk in tempe beach park at (near) sunset. some really interesting results and cool shadows. you can see the set here, but first check out this example photo:
it’s a taro shiba hipstamatic wednesday! and this week, summer is definitely here.
well, it’d be summer anywhere else. it’s in the mid-90s in phoenix, which means only my after-work walk is unpleasantly hot. it’s quite nice to walk in the morning (i’m all smiles, see?) and it’s also quite nice to walk late at night. by the time july rolls around, it will be unpleasantly hot on every walk.
i wish we were welcoming my new sisfur with better weather. it’s going to take her a while to get used to the heat and to our pretty intense walking schedule (currently walking at least 6.25 miles/day).
it’s a kiyomi shiba goofy photo friday!
wednesday night, kai walked kiyomi and i just before some storm clouds rolled in. there was some wind, but, more importantly, there were lots of leaves to chase.
kiyomi does not like to walk far from the house when it’s warm. but if she can chase leaves, she’ll get so excited that she doesn’t care. she walked all the way to the dog park and most of the way home. she was such a happy li’l shiba.
before we got home, though, kiyomi wanted to stop and check out a sprinkler. she likes to attack the water that comes out of the sprinkler. of course, this means she ends up all wet, but she doesn’t mind too much.
i told some #twibas on twitter yesterday, but i’ll tell it again:
while walking around the block yesterday evening, a tied-up saint bernard (mix, perhaps?) snapped its outside tie line. it came charging from its apartment over to the sidewalk, gunning for me, kai and kiyomi.
kai was holding kiyomi, but i was on leash. kai yelled to alert the saint bernard’s human and then tried to keep it away by sticking a foot straight out. the saint bernard made a low growl, almost as if to test me.
i growled and snarled and was tough. i was very upset but protective—that dog was not getting all the way to my face. kai continued to make noise, and sort of spun in a circle while keeping a foot straight out. kai would yank me away when the saint bernard got too close.
finally the saint bernard’s human finished slowly (!!!) walking over to get her dog. kai was a bit shaken up, kiyomi was fine, but, a few minutes later, i got lots of treats for sitting. [extra note: moments later, another tied-up dog almost snapped its line while we were walking, but luckily it didn’t. strangely enough, we’ve never seen any tied-up dogs on our neighborhood walks before.]
let it be known that i, snaggletoothed taro ‘t-bear’ tiberius, in spite of my nine-pound size can protect my pack if i must.
it’s a hipstamatic taro shiba wednesday! today, we’re talking about walks.
right now, my pack walks about 4 miles a day. well, i should say, i walk 4 miles a day.
kiyomi gets carried [pic here] for the first two walks of the day (about 3 miles). she likes walking near the house, but is super, super slow walking with me. since i love my long-distance walks, kiyomi gets carried for 90% of our non-dog-park time. (and please don’t suggest we pull her along—little kiyomi knows how to protest a walk with the best of them).
for the last walk of the night, humom joins our pack. with a second handler and a pace-setting taro shiba, kiyomi actually follows along pretty well. it’s still much slower than i walk, but it works out. and, now that the weather is pretty nice at night, going slowly doesn’t melt shibas like it does during the summer here.
perhaps by next summer kiyomi will be a regular walking shiba.
it’s a shiba video monday.
the above pic is of a walk we took with friends sunday morning on tempe town lake. in the pic is rinji (foreground, black & tan shiba), mika (red shiba in middle), tokyo (facing lake), & kiyomi’s butt.
where’s the video? why, here it is. a quick vid of walking shibas. i’m not in it because my handler was recording the video.
bonus pic: taro & kiyomi walk.
hudad’s been walking me more lately.
other than both of us feeling better, healthier and happier when we walk 3.5+ miles/day, there’s another benefit.
the added benefit is that i tend to be cuddly after long walks. and, a cuddly taro shiba makes for both a happy shiba & a happy pair of humans.
